Areas of Focus

My name is Maggie Haan (She/Her). I am a licensed mental health counselor who practices from an emotionally-focused, Health at Every Size®, LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent affirming framework to help people heal and reconnect with themselves.

Here are the areas I specialize in:

  • You might be looking for a more freeing relationship with food, whether you’ve been in treatment before, have never named your struggle, or are simply exhausted by food feeling like a source of fear, pressure, or shame.

I have experience treating: Anorexia (In all body sizes), Bulimia, Binge-Eating Disorder, Avoidant-Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID), and Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorder (OSFED).

I am Health at Every Size® aligned, fat-positive, and take a treatment team approach, coordinating with registered dietitians and medical providers to provide holistic care.

    .

  • You may have grown up in an environment where emotional neglect, instability, or even violence felt normal. You might not have called it trauma, but you’ve felt its effects in your relationships, in your body, and in how hard it can be to truly relax or feel safe.

I have advanced training in trauma counseling and Emotionally-Focused Individual Therapy that guide my work in helping clients feel safer and more connected to themselves and others.

  • You may notice an inner voice that critiques or doubts you, even when you’re doing your best. Together, we will explore the deeper emotions and beliefs that fuel your inner critic. You’ll learn to meet yourself with more warmth and compassion, opening the door to greater confidence and self-trust.

  • Maybe you’ve felt unsure about your worth or belonging and found yourself linking those feelings to your body. Or perhaps you carry grief about how your body has been treated, perceived, or changed over time. Grounded in body liberation and Health at Every Size®, my work supports you in moving toward accepting, respecting, and caring for your body by making space for your emotions, unpacking harmful messages you’ve absorbed, and strengthening a kinder connection with yourself.

  • Many people I work with have spent years feeling like they’re “failing” when, in reality, they’ve been trying to function in dominant systems that weren’t designed for their brains, bodies, or identities.

Internalized oppression can show up as masking, self-doubt, shame, or feeling like an imposter. Therapy can be a place to slow down, understand where these beliefs came from, and experiment with ways of being that feel more sustainable and true to you.

  • You may be feeling tense, on edge, or like you want to crawl out of your skin at times. Or you might feel sad, a loss of energy, or disconnected from things that once brought you joy. In our work together, we will find new ways of coping, begin to understand your emotional patterns, and connect with the deeper needs your feelings are pointing toward.
